The aftermath of that spectacular pre-Christmas blizzard was a full morning of shoveling. Too bad I wasn't on the slopes! It was perfect powder.

I know this picture looks blurry—it's not. It's just snowing that hard. The snow we were supposed to get on Friday was a lot weaker than most of us were anticipating, but the "little bit" of snow on Sunday ended up packing quite a punch.
French Toast Alert!

You'd think after all these years of living in New England we'd all learn to plan ahead a little.
For some inexplicable reason, whenever snow’s coming there’s a mad last-minute rush on milk, eggs and bread at all the grocery stores. It’s so widespread, unexplainable and quirky-funny that Adam of UniversalHub invented the French Toast Alert system for it. Today’s expected 12+ inches of snow call for a French Toast Alert level of Orange.
And what did I realize I was out of this morning when I reached for my breakfast cereal?
Lucky me, I got to stand in some truly epic lines while waiting to check out my milk and eggs. (Thankfully I already had bread.) The Clarendon Hill Foodmaster in Somerville was completely mobbed, way worse than the Saturday morning crowds. And in everyone’s hands were indeed milk, eggs and bread. Unbelievable!
