I, like any respectable geek, really dig Wil Wheaton’s blog. For the uninitiated, Wil’s the actor who played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, the young ensign that so many loved to hate. Except me, because I wanted to be him. Precocious kid on the same bridge as Captain Picard? Hell yes!
Not to completely brown nose—he’s not going to read this anyway!— but he has a fun writing style and a lot of good stuff to say. (Unlike this blog.)
Anyway, due to his own admitted geekiness, he’s a good host to a lot of jokes made at his expense, like this one, affectionately dubbed LOLWesley:
Yea, you have to be a bit of a geek to get that. But I LOL’ed. (If you’re somewhat new to t3h Internets: Hi, there’s this thing called LOLcats. And LOLtrek. And even LOLcode. Everything’s funnier on the internet WHEN IT’S IN ALL CAPS LOL)
So I just want to give props to the Mr. Wheaton. He’s a geek among geeks, and he’s not afraid to share his life with the rest of us salivating masses.
…Would you rather I write about World of Warcraft? Because I could totally do that.
You see, most blogs are trying to make a difference in the world, I think. They want to say something of consequence, mobilize the masses, that sort of thing.
Not me.

This is the Vice President. I want to offer you a position as our Nerd Czar. Your job would be to coordinate all your activities with other nerds, and maximize your nerdiness. Yes. And I’ll let you borrow Air Force 2 if you ask politely.

Hi Mr. Vice President — Fancy seeing you here! I’d be honored to accept the position as Nerd Czar. To be honest it’d fulfill a lifelong dream of mine. But I feel I should mention one caveat in all fairness: I’m not nearly as nerdy as my older brother. He might be a better fit for this role. I just want to be fair and mention him — without his fearless devotion to Dr. Who, I wouldn’t be the potential Nerd Czar I am today.

Congratulations! You are now our new Nerd Czar. Incidentally, are you now, or were you at any point in time, a member of the Arabian Horse Association? We’re always on the lookout for quality people of that caliber.
Your brother indeed sounds quite “on the pulse,” as they say? I bet he probably thinks Babylon 5 is better than TNG, and that Battlestar Galactica and LOST are the best shows on TV right now. Probably.
Anyways, enjoy your new position. Just remember, if you disappoint me, I’ll have to send Lynn after you. Most people don’t know this, but not only is she a supportive wife and a dutiful homemaker, but also a trained assassin, skilled in the art of the silent takedown.
